Ukraine keeps raising taxes on tobacco to cut down smoking rates

According to the State Treasury, tobacco tax revenue in 2018 amounted to UAH 43.6 billion, which is 9.3% more than in 2017. A significant increase in revenue is the result of an increase of the specific excise tax on tobacco products by 29.7% from January 1, 2018.

Press release open letter by Action on Smoking and Health (ASH US) and Unfairtobacco

October 05, 2017, 89 organizations from around the globe published an open letter to Philip Morris International (PMI) demanding that they immediately cease the production, marketing and sale of cigarettes. The move was prompted by a similar recommendation from the Danish Institute for Human Rights, which had been hired by PMI to perform a human rights evaluation.
